Current Research Description

Our research integrates advances in electronics, micro/nanofabrication, tissue engineering, synthetic biology, biomaterials, and neural engineering into the engineering of advanced neural interfacing technologies for neuroscience and neural prosthetics. We pursue two research themes:

  1. Electrode-based neural interfaces: We particularly focus on soft neural electrodes including stretchable microelectrode arrays for effectively recording and stimulating the nerves. Some relevant clinical applications of our research include peripheral nerve repair, treatment for denervation muscle atrophy, and functional electrical stimulation.
  2. Integrated cellular circuits: We study their fundamental science and engineering and apply them to developing living neural prosthetics.
