Research
In Fischer lab, I study several aspects of retinal development and regeneration. Particularly, I investigate the signaling pathways that mediate Muller glia reprogramming in the early postnatal chick and adult murine retina. In lower vertebrates, acute injury and growth factors facilitate Muller glia reprogramming into progenitor-like cells. These progenitors proliferate and differentiate into neurons to restore vision. We study mechanisms of progenitor cell formation and neurogenesis using single cell transcriptomic and epigenomic analyses, pharmacological agents, and Muller glia-targeted genetic manipulations.
